IFAC 2014 Newsletter | December 2012

The 19th World Congress of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC 2014) will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 24-29 August 2014.

Hosted by the South African Council for Automation and Control (SACAC), IFAC 2014 will be the first time that the congress is held in Africa and we look forward to welcoming you to the beautiful city of Cape Town.

The Technology Innovation Agency Sponsors IFAC 2014

We are very pleased to announce that the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) will be supporting the congress as the Diamond Sponsor. TIA’s objective is to stimulate and intensify technological innovation in order to improve economic growth and the quality of life of all South Africans by developing and exploiting technological innovations. Therefore they are natural partners for the IFAC congress and we are looking forward to working with them to fulfil the Federation’s aim to promote the science and technology of control in the broadest sense, in all systems.

TIA’s support for the congress also means that IFAC 2014 will be promoted to South African researchers and innovators, ensuring wide participation by South Africans who may not have had an opportunity to attend an international congress of this calibre.

Planning Update

Planning for the congress is well underway and the National Organising Committee (NOC) is working closely with the congress organiser to ensure that all participants experience a world-class congress as well as the best that Cape Town has to offer. Already we have identified picturesque Cape Town locations for the Welcome Reception and the Congress Dinner.

Our IPC Co-Chair Professor Edward Boje was recently in Japan for the first IFAC 2014 IPC meeting at the IFAC Workshop on Automation in the Mining, Mineral and Metal Industries (IFAC MMM 2012). Post that meeting, we are pleased to confirm the following important dates:

  • June 2013: Call for Papers is issued and the submission site opens.
  • October 2013: Deadline for the submission of full draft contributed / invited / industrial papers; invited session proposals; pre-congress tutorials and workshops proposals; and panel discussion session proposals.
  • October 2013: Registration opens.
  • February 2014: Authors notified of acceptance.
  • March 2014: Preliminary programme announcement.
  • March 2014: Deadline for final submissions.
  • April 2014: Final programme announcement.

Sponsorship

The 2011 IFAC Congress in Milan was extremely well supported and we are hoping for an equally successful event in 2014. The aim is to make each congress a success, both for the Federation and for the participants that attend. To this end, we are pleased to make available a number of sponsorship packages for IFAC 2014.

Don't miss the opportunity to put your company in front of thousands of control engineers at a world-class congress. Click here to download the sponsorship prospectus. Sign up as a sponsor by contacting the IFAC 2014 Congress Secretariat on info@ifac2014.org with interest or if you have any enquiries.

All the Best for 2013

The IFAC 2014 National Organising Committee wishes you a joyous festive season and all the best for 2013. We look forward to communicating with you in the new year.
